A blend of material and textures sets apart these neutral statement earrings. From the top an enclosed clay stud, a hand cut leather semicircle, and then three natural hanging tassels. These earrings were created by Sancha and the women of Have Hope in Kenya.
Sancha is from the war-torn country of Bhutan, and her family was sent to a refugee camp in Nepal about 20 years ago for refuge. She came to the United States in 2012, and two years later she became an artisan with Mercy House Global. She uses the money she earns to provide for her family and she recently took the steps to become a US citizen. Monica pulled our founder aside while in a slum in Kenya, and pulled up her sleeve to reveal a 10-inch gash in her arm. She explained that in a drunken rage, her husband had chased her with scissors. Monica explained that if she didn’t have her job with Have Hope her only option would be to continue in the abuse. But dignified work has given her other options!
